Man was created to bring pleasure to God. That was the will of God for him before the foundation of the Earth. Isaiah 43:7. Thus, the whole duty of man is not the accumulation of wealth, great academic achievements, or other things many people seek today, but the will of God. We can only fulfill God’s purpose for our lives when we live according to His will. Anything that does not glorify God nor fulfill His will brings displeasure to Him.
God blessings are bestowed on those who find His will and do it. He grants them the grace to continually carry out His will. Hence, whatever blessings we receive from God should help us to bring more pleasure to Him. Those that operate outside of God’s cannot enjoy the blessings of God because they have shut themselves out of the pathway through which God can bless them. They have forsaken the Fountain of living water and carved for themselves broken cistern that cannot hold water. Jeremiah 2:13.
God’s will is that we love Him with our lives and love others also. Matthew 22:35-40. God desires us to seek the good of others, to show them His nature and character so that they can know Him. Unbelievers have a warped understanding of God’s love because the devil had conditioned their minds otherwise. God wants to use us to reveal His love to them and show them that their lives are valuable to Him. This desire drove Jesus Christ throughout his earthly ministry such that, at one instance, he preferred ministering to people to eating food. John 4:34-38.
Ruth was committed to the welfare of Naomi, her mother-in-law, even when there was nothing Naomi could do for her again. Her love for Naomi transcended what she could get from her. She left her country and everything else she had to follow Naomi so that she could care for her. Her actions pleased God and He blessed her beyond what she could have ever gotten by other means. Hence, when we are fully surrendered to God’s will, He will give us the reward that comes with obedience. No matter what we experience now in our desire to please God, let us not be discouraged. God will arise for us at the right time. Psalm 46:5.
